Le matin, on mange en général des tartines, c’est-à-dire du pain beurré, de la baguette ou une tranche de pain, avec éventuellement de la confiture ou du miel.	In the morning, we usually eat sandwiches, that is to say buttered bread, baguette or a slice of bread, possibly with jam or honey.
On prend une boisson chaude (café, lait, thé) que l’on boit dans un grand bol ou dans une tasse.	We take a hot drink (coffee, milk, tea) that we drink in a large bowl or in a cup.
Certains prennent des céréales, des oeufs à la coque, servis dans des coquetiers, et boivent du jus de fruit frais.	Some take cereals, hard-boiled eggs, served in egg cups, and drink fresh fruit juice.
Les croissants, grande spécialité française, se mangent souvent dans les bistrots ou à la maison.	Croissants, a great French specialty, are often eaten in bistros or at home.
Le déjeuner	Lunch

Il comporte en général une entrée, un plat de viande ou de poisson accompagné de légumes et un fromage ou un dessert (un yaourt ou un fruit constituent des desserts courants à la maison)	It usually includes a starter, a meat or fish dish accompanied by vegetables and a cheese or a dessert (yoghurt or a fruit are common desserts at home)
Le goûter	Afternoon tea
C’est un petit repas pour les enfants qui sortent de l’école et qui ressemble beaucoup au petit déjeuner.	It’s a small meal for the kids who just leave school and is very similar to breakfast.
Souvent aussi, les mamans achètent un pain au chocolat ou une brioche à la pâtisserie du coin.	Mothers often buy a pain au chocolat or a brioche at the local pastry shop.
Le diner	Dinner (the evening)
le soir, il a en général la même structure que le déjeuner, mais il comportera peut-être une soupe (un potage) de légumes en hiver.	It usually has the same structure as lunch, but it may include a vegetable soup (soup) in the winter.
Aux repas principaux, beaucoup de gens boivent régulièrement du vin et parfois de la bière.	At main meals, many people regularly drink wine and sometimes beer.
Les gastronomes savent choisir le vin qui va avec le plat.	Gourmets know how to choose the wine that goes with the dish.
Par exemple, un bon vin blanc sec avec du poisson, du vin rouge avec les viandes et le fromage et un rosé bien frais l’été, quand il fait chaud.	For example, a good dry white wine with fish, red wine with meats and cheese and a very cool rosé in summer, when it is hot.
On boit aussi beaucoup d’eau: Il y a toujours une carafe d’eau sur les tables de restaurant.	We also drink a lot of water: There is always a jug of water on restaurant tables.
À la fin du repas, on boit un café fort, ou, le soir, une infusion.	At the end of the meal, we drink a strong coffee, or, in the evening, an infusion.
Avant le repas, on peut prendre un apéritif (kir, porto. muscat, whisky, gin. etc.) qui est toujours accompagné d’amuse-gueule (cacahuètes, pistaches. biscuits d’apéritif, olives, etc.)	Before the meal, you can have an aperitif (kir, port, muscat, whiskey, gin, etc.) which is always accompanied by appetizers (peanuts, pistachios, aperitif cookies, olives, etc.)
Après le repas, on peut déguster un digestif, c’est-à-dire un alcool fort comme le cognac, l’armagnac ou la prune.	After the meal, you can enjoy a digestif, that is to say a strong alcohol such as cognac, armagnac or plum.
