Petite conversation: Comment vas – tu?
Practice French conversations with French Circles. In this post, you are going to practice he conversation: Comment vas-tu? – How are you? in the informal or familiar way. Please feel free to practice the other ways to ask the same questions from the list.
Comment vas-tu? This is the familiar way of asking “how are you?”, on it inversion construction and the tu form.
You may also say: Comment tu vas? on it direct construction and the tu form.
A typical answer for “comment vas-tu?” could be:
– Je vais bien – I’m fine (remember French use “aller”, not “être” – we don’t say “je suis bien” but “je vais bien”

“Ça va?” (pronounced sa va, since the cedilla makes the C pronounced as an S) it never changes whether you ask to one person or to several.
“Ça va?”is not the most formal French. But it’s so practical that it’s been used a lot in French lately, and has really made its way in almost all situations: among friends and family, of course, but also at the office, with acquaintances… It’s only in the most formal of situations that it may not be appropriate.
